Let's get started.

Hello and thanks for reading my blog. In June of this year I had my first opportunity to work with honey bees. To simplify things a little, my "Father in Law", Dave asked if I would be interested in helping with his 25 odd hives. He had several new Queens being delivered and could always use an extra pair of hands.
I do not recall ever being stung by a bee, but I do remember my Grandfather being rushed to the hospital when I was a child from a bee sting, he was highly allergic. This event may explain why I have been none too fond bees, hornets, wasps or anything else that will sting. I was a little nervous, but kept that to myself and quickly agreed to help out. After all, I would be invincible in a bee suit, wouldn't I? :) Dave gave me several books to read and told me he would call when the Queens arrived.
The first book I dove into was "A Beeman's Journey" by Charles Sauriol. I am not much of an author and any accolades I give would not do justice to the book or the author. All I can do is suggest that anyone interested in honey bees, nature or just an all around good story buy it. You will not be disappointed.
It wasn't long before Dave called. The Queens were in. I'll tell you all about it when I return.

Bye for now.
